Happy Birthday, Peyton and Addison

Well, so much for being on bed-rest for weeks on end. Today, January 28th, Addison Avery Dossett and Peyton Noel Dossett were born by C-section. Addison was born at 12:46 and Peyton was born at 12:48.

The Story:

Well, since my last update, many, many thing have been happening. To start, I was transferred to the hospital in Idaho Falls on tuesday. When Dr. Barton checked me tuesday morning, he said I was about 5 cm. dilated. I had not been feeling any contractions, but I was clearly still in labor. We decided to transfer to EIRMC that day. I had to get a catheter in order to be transferred, and let me tell you, that is NOT something i wanna do again without complete numbness! Anyways, the transfer went smooth, and all the nurses accompanying me were really good and nice. We settled into the hospital about 11 and my new doc was Dr. Levitt. He is really good, and even the neonatal nurses go to him when they are pregnant.

What happened:

Last night I was trying to use the bathroom when I felt a gush of fluid. I had started to bleed and when Dr. Levitt checked me he said that I was dilated to about 9 cm. And the membranes were really far down, almost pushing through. They did go back up after the Dr. checked me, but the prognosis was grim. I would almost certainly have the girls withing the next week, if not that night. I was put on magnesium to try and stop the contractions (that I wasn't feeling). Whoever else has been on mag, knows that it burns. The IV hurt bad going in and not only that but I felt really hot and sweaty and I felt a lil nauseous, but mostly my eyes burned like i needed sleep but wasn't sleepy. Anyways, we were stable throughout the night but in the morning, Dr. Levitt discussed the fact that we might want to do a c-section today instead of waiting. We decided to have the planned c-section because we didn't want it to be emergent and have something go wrong with one of the babies, or to have one of the babies accidentally "come out" and have one of the girls leave us.
We planned the delivery for noon but two emergency c sections bumped us til about 1230. All went better than planned, thanks to the steroid shots i'd had the week before to help develop the girl's lungs. Because the girls we so small, the kind of c-section that they performed will make it impossible for me to every have a vaginal birth again. Strangely, I feel ok with that. As long as i have healthy babies, i'm ok.

Addison and Peyton were both able to cry when they were delivered, then they were taken straight to the NICU, I wasn't even able to see them. Addison weighted about 1 lbs 5 oz, and Peyton weight about 1 lbs. 4 oz. Toby did say they were really small and beautiful. After they stitched me back up, I was taken to Recovery where numerous phone calls were made to deliver the news!! Toby and my mom were both able to go see the girls but i was stuck in bed, just like the past week. The NICU nurse came to talk to us about the babies but was very out of it, because my nurse had just given me a drug that makes you very very sleepy. Anyways, i was getting upset because i hdan't seen the girls yet, but they weren't done getting them all set up with their IVs and all other equipment, so i wasn't allowed in yet. I was taken to my room and settled when the Neo-natalogist came and talked to us about the girl's conditions.

How they are:

Both babies are doing well, and both are recieving blood. Turns out, Peyton lost about half her blood supply, which was why I was bleeding. The planned C-section turned out to save Peyton's life. If we had waiting, she would have bled out and died without us even knowing. Thank goodness for promptings of the spirit! Addison and Peyton are both on breathing machines and have lines to deliver antibiotics and fluid. They are being monitored very closely, and just for informational purposes, the neonatal drs are some of the best in the country. This hospital does in fact hold the record for the smallest baby being born without major complications.

In Conclusion:

After the Dr. left us, I was able to get out of bed and so see my girls. Unfortunately, seince i havn't been up and waking in over a week, I was pretty weak and could barely stand even with help. We were able to go see them for a few minutes, but I started to feel pretty light headed with all the heating equipment in the NICU, so I didn't get to see them as long as I wanted. I was pretty frustrated because I couldn't really see them from my wheelchair and I wasn't exactly in a position to stand and see them. I was really in a crabby mood through the afternoon.
My mood has improved as well as our stress levels. Knowing the girls are in the best hands possible, is a HUGE relief! Now we can concentrate on Ben and the girls and getting to the point where they can come home with us!
We especially want to thank everyone who prayed and kept us on their hearts, we definitely felt the love and support throughout this trial. We ask for your continued prayers as the girls continue to grow and develop.

Hopsital Visit: Week 1

So, i've been quite lazy and haven't updated this like I should of. So, here goes:

I have been admitted to the hospital until the Twins come. I am on strict bedrest and can not even lay flat, my head has to be lower than my legs, to keep pressure off my cervix. No, I do not even get potty privileges, I have the joys of using a bed pan. Yeah, I know, you're jealous. Now that you have a small update, I'll let you know what happened.

Tuesday, January 18, I found that I was bleeding. This wasn't just any bleeding, it was heavy significant bleeding. Toby's class was just getting out, so I called him, packed up Ben in the car and headed to the Dr's Office. I'd bled a little with Ben but it was slight and was declared implantation bleeding, basically a little bit of blood that can come after the egg attaches to the uterus. Anyways, we got to the Dr. Office and got checked by Dr. Allred. (Not the most pleasant experience ever, as mom's know). He said I was dialated about 1 cm, but that could just be how my cervix could be with already having 1 baby or the fact that i'm pregnant with twin. But there was still a significant amount of bleeding (like a period) so he ordered an ultrasound. Ever reassuring, he stated that this could just possibly be a time in my pregnancy that I go on house arrest, but could also be an abrupt placenta, which is where the placenta can become detached from the uterus wall and is fatal. The ultrasound ruled out any problems with the placentas and with the babies. They are both growing strong and are both super healthy. However, when the Tech was checking my cervix, she wasn't very happy with the result and called the Dr. in. When Dr Allred check out the image, he wasn't very happy. He said that it turned out to be a lot more serious that he thought and I needed to check into the hospital immediately.
It turns out that I have what is called an incompetent cervix. Unfortunately there is pressure building on my cervix and not even from the babies, but if i were to stay on my feet, then I would go into preterm labor, and my girls wouldn't even have a chance. I am currently 23 weeks, turning 24 on Thursday, which is a viable age for the girls, if I were to have then now. So, what now, you ask?? I am on bedrest until the girls would be strong enough to survive on their own. I am being transferred to EIRMC this week because they have a more specialized NICU and are able to care for infants under 30 weeks. It is a precautionary method, so my goal is to reach 30 weeks on bed rest (which is about 6 weeks) then to be transferred back up here to Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg to have the babies. They aren't going to be full term babies and will spend some time in the NICU which is why i want to have them in Rexburg, because it would be so much easier to be with them.

So that is my update, however there is one more thing i want to say. We appreciate all prayers and fasts on behalf of our family. We have definitely felt the spirit as we have started to take in all that has happened this past week. We do not feel as if we are being prepared to lose them. As serious as this situation is, and as scared as we are for their lives, we honestly believe that these two spirits will live and we will be able to eventually take them home. We don't know when, but they will come when they are supposed to and we are doing everything in our power to make sure they have a fighting chance. Again, all prayers are appreciated, as well as visits, as they really boost our spirits! Also, feel free to call my cell! Thanks for all the love and support!!

And the Verdict is...............

TWO GIRLS!!!

We found out in December when we were about 17 1/2 weeks along. The ultrasound tech was about 95% sure, because the soonest you can tell gender is 16 weeks. When we found out that the first one was a girl, i was so happy!! I really wanted at least one girl!! Can you imagine three boys under the age of two? CRAZINESS!! At first, I didn't even really care if the second one was a girl, but now that i know they are, i'm so excited!! Hopefully they won't be identical, lol! They are in separate sacs, but there is still a 25% chance that they will be identical! We are down to Dr. appts every 3 weeks!! Also, the Dr. said that I should quit work at about 28 weeks. That is the end of February. I work the two days after my 28 weeks, so I'll quit after that!

We have officially decided on names for the girls! Without waiting to see if they are identical or now, we decided not to name they with "matchy" names! I do, however, think that these names go together, well, at least the first ones.
They're names will be Peyton Noel Dossett and Addison Avery Dossett. I absolutely love these names!! And, yes i do know that these will not be Christmas babies, but even so, peyton will have noel as her middle name!! Isn't it just too cute? And I 100 percent love the name Addison Avery.

I have already started collecting things for the girls!! This past fall, i went to yard sales with Katrina and we found an amazing deal on little girl clothes! There was a HUGE table full of clothes and the lady said, 5$ per shopping bag!! We went in together on a bag and I probably got about 10 pieces! Plus they were so stinking cute!! And, the other day i went to DI and got about 15$ worth of clothes! I still don't have many clothes for preemie or NB size, so i'll keep looking!! But at least i have a start! I also have a twin nursing pillow, and a double stroller (40$ at a discount store), just won a double electric breast pump on ebay, and we already have a pack and play w/ bassinett for the girls to share! Is it weird that I'm getting more and more freaked out the more stuff I have?!?!

Wanna show some love?

I love comments! Feel free to comment as much as you want! All comments are welcome, they make me feel so loved!!
